Dr. June Ann Smith

Dr. June Ann Smith is a native of the beautiful island of Jamaica. She holds a Bachelors degree in Biology from Northern Caribbean University, a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instructional Supervision, and a PhD in Counseling and Human Services from Andrews University. In addition she holds a Master of Social Work degree from Yeshiva University. Currently, Dr. Smith is Chair of the Department of Counseling & Development, and a tenured faculty in the College of Education, Technology and Information at Long Island University on the CW Post and Brentwood Campuses. She teaches in the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Leadership, and the graduate programs in the Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling programs.

In 2005 she received the David Newton Award for Teacher of Excellence from Long Island University. She is published in several peer reviewed Journals, co-authored two books with her husband, and wrote a chapter in the book, “Trauma Counseling” which is currently used as a Text book in the course.

Milton D. Morris

Milton was born at Sherwood Content, Trelawny, Jamaica. Graduated from: Northern Caribbean University, (WIC) class of ‘62 Columbia Union College (Washington Adventist University) class of 1964 University of Maryland, PhD in Political Science, 1970 Career Highlights: Political Science Instructor, Columbia Union College 1967-70 Assistant Professor/Associate Professor, Southern Illinois University1970-1973 Ford Foundation Research Fellow, Joint Center for Political Studies 1974 Research Associate/Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution 1974- 1982 Senior VP for Research, Joint Center for Political Studies, 1983- 1997 Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University, 1997-98 CEO of MDM Office Systems Inc. 1984-

Milton’s educational journey from Sherwood Content began with an invitation from WIC president M.J. Sorenson to consider attending the college upon completion of my Jamaica Local Exams. Entered as a work-study student working in the print shop. Worked my way through WIC as a printer.

Milton is an extensively published scholar, and business operator. With his wife Merrillie they consider NCU as the gateway to fulfilling careers. They are committed to helping to enable the university to provide opportunities others.

Dr. Joseph Redey, PharmD, MPH, MS, BS

Dr Redley who describes himself as a friend of NCU, currently resides in the United States and is a practicing Pharmacist in Atlanta Georgia.

Dr. Redley started his professional career as an educator having taught in Jamaica at several institutions including, Kingsway High, Excelsior High, Excelsior Community College and University of Technology (UTECH), Kingston Jamaica. In the United States, Dr Redley continued his teaching career at the Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland Ohio then at the Columbus State Community College in Columbus Ohio.

He spent 5 years in business as a Sales Executive at Life of Jamaica Insurance Company now Sagicor Life, Kingston Jamaica where he qualified for the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table club a number of times. Dr. Redley’s academic career started in Jamaica at Kingsway High where during these formative years his solid Christian foundation was built. From Kingsway he went to Excelsior Community then UWI where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree (Hons) in Zoology, Biochemistry and Chemistry. He continued his studies in the US where he earned his MS in Chemistry at the John Carroll University, followed by his Doctorate of Pharmacy and MPH degrees at the Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio.

Dr. Redley was baptized at the age of 14 at the North Street SDA church in Kingston, Jamaica. He served the church in several capacities including, Your Choir director, Adult Sabbath School Superintendent and Teacher, AYS leader. He was first appointed as Local elder at the North Street SDA church in 1990, and continued to serve as Elder in several congregations for over 33 years. He served as head elder for 4 years at the Fayette SDA Church, Fayetteville Georgia where he currently serves as elder and Family Life Director along with his wife Donna. Dr. Redley credits his success to the impact his teachers, graduates of NCU had on him in his formative years.

Dr Redley has been married to Donna Pitter-Redley for 33 years and together they have three beautiful children. Jo-Marie, Jovaugh and Jodon Paul. His motto is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”.

Dr. L. Roo McKenzie

I graduated from WIC/NCU in 1973 as a theology major. I worked as a pastor in Portland and Kingston and also as a principal at Portland and Kingsway High schools. My graduate studies was in counseling and in leadership and administration from Loma Linda University.

Since then, I have worked as a Principal at South Bay, Redlands, Andrews, and Loma Linda Academies. I have also served as VP for Advancement at Washington Adventist University. Currently I am serving as the pastor for administration at Community Praise Church in Alexandria, Virginia. I am the author of three books, proud and lucky husband of one wife (Nellie), two daughters and four granddaughters.

My motto in life: Love living and live loving My mantra: If it is too much to give, it is too much to receive.

Bertram Melbourne

Bertram Melbourne is a 1968 graduate of West Indies College, now Northern Caribbean University. On graduation, he worked as educator, pastor, and a director for 19,000 young people in Western Jamaica before returning to his alma mater to serve as professor and administrator. Now, he is professor, Biblical Language and Literature at Howard University School of Divinity. An accomplished educator, he has taught at the high school, college, seminary, and university levels. He has served as Department and Division Chair at the college level and Associate Dean and Interim Dean at Howard University School of Divinity. Melbourne has authored several books, book chapters, encyclopedia entries, articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers. He is the first NCU grand and Caribbean person to write a Bible Study Guide (Quarterly) for the world SDA church. Melbourne served as pastor with Potomac Conference of SDA for more than fifteen years, thirteen and a half of which were spent at the Rockville SDA Church.

Melbourne has taught, lectured, and preached, nationally and internationally. He has visited six continents and over seventy countries. He is founder and CEO of Collaborate to Educate Our Sons (CEOS), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization (collaboratetoeducate.org) designed to facilitate caring relationships, enthuse mentoring, provide scholarships, and support education for boys and young men.

Married to the late Cavel Melbourne, they have three adult children. Melbourne likes people, loves family, and adores God. He wants to live eternally with Jesus. His passion is helping people know Jesus better.

Marva Shand-McIntosh

Northern Caribbean University is one of the institutional pillars in my life. It is the training ground for my formative educators, spiritual leaders and lifelong friends. I also had the privilege to participate in the work-study program and graduated from West Indies College High School.

With this foundation, I was able to serve as an awarded speech language pathology clinician and administrator in Washington, D.C. for over 30 years. During that time, I also served for ten years as the president of the Metropolitan Washington D.C. alumni chapter of NCU.

Currently, I am the founder of the premiere international listening day, I Love To Listen Day-May, 16th and the Quick Listening Academy. It is my honor to invest in NCU by serving on the board of NCU International Education Foundation and provide other contributions.

Danieto H. Murray, JP, MBA

On June 1, 1987, two weeks after successfully completing a four-year work-study programme and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (honors), Mr. Danieto Murray joined the work force at Northern Caribbean University (formerly) West Indies College as a junior accountant in the business office.

Over these many years Mr. Murray has served in many capacities to include Accounting Supervisor, Chief Accountant, Treasurer (nine years), Vice President for Finance & Industries (16 years), Director for Development & Community Partnerships, and Director, Alumni Relations, Advancement & Development, a position he currently holds.

The decade of the nineties can be said to be one of the most challenging in the history of Jamaica, yet Northern Caribbean University experienced significant improvements in critical financial ratios. This is due to a large extent to Mr. Murray’s financial astuteness. In recognition of his outstanding performance, he received the President’s Annual Award in November 1998. He has subsequently been recognized and awarded over ten different times for outstanding contributions to the University.

As chief financial officer of NCU, Mr. Murray piloted the financial ship for approximately 16 years moving it from significant negative working capital and liquidity to acceptable policy levels prior to the global meltdown and the resulting loss of over 1800 students. During his tenure, he managed the acquisitions of several properties to include North Campus; the property that houses the Eastern Regional Campus; Parchment Property which houses workers and the Counselling Centre, a four-acre property in Newport, and the 1200-acre property in Goshen, St. Elizabeth.

Mr. Murray is a trained welder who holds certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). He also finds time to engage in stress alleviating activities such as farming, badminton, and dominoes.

Mr. Murray is Married to Natalie and the union has produced Danieto Antonio and Deighton Alex.

Dr. Patric Rutherford

Dr. Patric Rutherford is a two-time graduate of NCU (BTH & PhD). He also holds a Masters in Health Administration from LLU. He served for from 1995 to 2016 and again between March 2021 and the present as President and CEO of Andrews Memorial Hospital in Kingston Jamaica. He transformed the hospital’s financials from a loss to a profit position with gross annual revenue increasing from US$1.7M to US$9M, expanded the hospital physical and human capital among other major accomplishments. His civic contributions serving as a member of JAMPRO and President of the Jamaica Association of Private Hospitals for fifteen years.

Dr. Rutherford has also been an avid supporter of NCU. He has served on the Board of Trustees for over seventeen years and has been president of the Central Florida Alumni Association. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Northern Caribbean International Development Foundation. He has authored God and President Trump Plus the Rest of Us.
